WHAT? YOU FILMED YOUR OWN DAUGHTER’S WEDDING?

COREE + SETH’S WEDDING FEATURETTE

Why did I shoot my OWN daughter’s wedding you may ask? That’s the question I’ve been getting when I mention it to friends and colleagues. Well… there are in fact a few very good reasons. Mainly because their original wedding date was for June of 2015 and I had recruited a talented crew for the gig. We were set! But when they suddenly decided to just do it this year instead, they chose September – indeed the busiest month for wedding vendors! I lost my crew and if there was going to be a wedding film produced at this event… I would have to do it myself! And that’s not a bad thing. Yes… it means not sitting next to loved ones in the audience and watching the ceremony from 25 feet away like all the rest of the guests. However, it gave me a better and closer view of the beautiful emotion I was able to capture on the faces of my daughter and her new husband through my electronic viewfinder on an extreme closeup of their faces. A view that’s impossible to achieve from those seats 25 feet away from the story unfolding in front of my eyes. I still got to feel that emotion from behind my lens. Even more so in fact because I was so close to the action.  Not to mention the savings in our wedding budget by doing it myself!

So armed with my Canon C300 cinema camera as the A cam, a GoPro Hero 3 mounted high for the master wide shot and a Canon 60D on a Glidecam for motion shots (and 3rd ceremony camera), I got some pretty cool shots and put together a little story : )

Here’s their story:

Seth and Coree met at UMass Amherst 7 years ago, through Seth’s high school friend and Coree’s roommate (and beautiful bridesmaid) Dayna Martin. It wasn’t until Dayna’s wedding in the summer of 2012 that sparks started flying. Unfortunately, Coree was living in LA, and Seth in Brooklyn. It only took a few weeks, but a long distance relationship started when they realized they were way cooler together than apart. Seth was given an opportunity with his job to move to Los Angeles, and the rest is history. Coree and Seth now live in LA with their handsome dog Wally (named after the Green Monster of course).

Coree and Seth were wed in the Seaport District on the most perfect September day under a
sky of blue and a breathtaking backdrop of the Boston skyline. Coree and her bridesmaids prepped at the InterContinental Boston, a short walk to the wedding venue. Seth and the guys dressed in grey suits at the Residence Inn at Seaport.

For the “First Look,” Coree walked across the old Northern Avenue bridge to the cheers of locals and tourists where Seth was waiting on the other side with his back turned toward the Seaport District.

The ceremony took place under the traditional Boston red brick archways of The Daily Catch restaurant on the Seaport Waterfront at the end of the Moakley Federal Courthouse.

Boston band Air Traffic Controller performed a live acoustic set for the wedding dances with Dad doing a surprise harmonica jam and then a lovely dinner of Boston seafood Italian style was served to the guests. The wedding cake was made by Flour Bakery.

The weather in September is usually perfect and Natalie and Nate’s wedding in Osterville on Cape Cod was no exception. For the ladies the day began with some pampering downtown at Oggi Salon, while the men donned their blue blazers and khaki trousers back at the Wianno Country Club. The ceremony took place at Our Lady of Victory in Centerville, a picture perfect quaint little church on a hill.

After the ceremony the Bride and Groom drove away to a beautiful reception at Oyster Harbors Club in a classic antique Buick courtesy of Christopher Limo Service. The room was accented by Be Our Guest Linens,  John Orton with floral arrangements and Tony Ormonde with some gorgeous lighting. The live music was presented by Sultans of Swing.

MARTA + BRIAN WEDDING TRAILER

Wedding Cinematography Blog

The minute I saw Marta step from her limo to do bride prep upstairs at the Wychmere Beach Club on Cape Cod wearing her gorgeous smile and her Mrs. Byrnes white hoodie… I knew it was gonna be a fun wedding film to shoot.

The ceremony was performed in the Harborview Room, which was flooded with natural window light. Perfect for shooting! After cocktails in the Oceanview room upstairs, it was back downstairs for the reception. Marta and Brian were very natural in front of our cameras which made it easy for us to document the best moments of their day.

THERE’S LOVE IN “THE TOWN” CHRISTINE + PATRICK LOVE STORY

Wedding Cinematography Blog

Charlestown… or “The Town” as the Ben Affleck movie is titled, isn’t all bank robbers and tough guys as the film suggests. It’s also about love. This picturesque city perched on the edge of Boston along the Mystic River, is the home of Christine and Patrick, who fell in love on myspace. The weather had been uncooperative for weeks before this shoot. I’m glad I held out because when the storms cleared, we ended up shooting in some of the best late afternoon light I have ever experienced.

The short piece was shot with a Canon HV40 using an indie slider.
